About Jennifer Markanich

Jennifer Markanich, owner of Timeless Interiors, is one of Nashville's most versatile interior design professionals. As an award-winning designer, she has worked nationwide, but focuses on serving corporate executives, country music stars, physicians and other health care professionals, attorneys and other elite clients in the greater Nashville area including Brentwood, Franklin and Hendersonville.

In addition to designing the interiors of new homes and remodeling existing ones, she creates custom furniture pieces for her clients ranging from beds and cabinetry to tables, chairs and light fixtures.

Jennifer is the nation’s only design professional with experience as a registered nurse, hospital department head and owner of a highly successful pediatric home health care business. She expanded the business to five states before selling it to a national chain. That background provided her with skills from which her design clients benefit today, such as assessing, diagnosing and meeting their needs, working within their time and budget restraints, and managing entire projects.

"I help my clients identify their biggest challenges when it comes to designing or remodeling their homes," says Jennifer. "I help them prioritize, save time, money and headaches and avoid costly mistakes, as well as enhance the value of their homes." Jennifer, an interior designer who specializes in kitchen and bath design, is a color and lighting expert, and is backed by a team of the region’s leading architects, contractors, floor and tile installers, painters, upholsterers, window covering specialists, furniture and cabinet makers, metal workers, art dealers, and other craftspeople.

With access to worldwide sources for fabrics, furniture, lighting, art, and decorative items, she possesses all the tools to provide stunning interiors. She is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers, the nation's largest and longest-established organization of design professionals. She also is active in the National Kitchen & Bath Assn. and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, and is a member of the Best Practices Network.

Jennifer launched Timeless Interiors after working with McAlpine, Booth & Ferrier Interiors in Nashville. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from O’More College of Design in Franklin, TN. She continues to serve on the school’s review board, and is currently a member of the ASID Tennessee State Board.

Q&A with Jennifer Markanich

Where do you find design inspiration?

I find design inspiration all around me and throughout my life experiences. From growing up around and in historical homes, travel here and abroad, exposure to great works of art and architecture in museums and the classroom, to the study of my collection of books by great designers. And additionally through the wealth of images on design blogs, Houzz, and Pinterest of current design work. The best inspirations, the ones that have the most profound effect, are those of personal interaction with spaces, buildings, and works of art. Experiences that move me in a way that become a part of me, to be drawn upon as needed to make a design complete.

How do you approach the design process?

I approach the design process from a place of "seeing". Attempting to see what my client can and can't see, and thus solve the design problem. What is working, what is not, what is on the wish list, what do they like and not like, how will the space be used and by whom, how do they want to feel in the space? These questions help me form points of reference to solve the design problem. Next I address the geometry of the space – spatial relationships and flow, then scale, proportion, style, texture, color, and light. The end results being the answer to questions they did not even know they had, and a design solution that surpasses expectations.

What makes your aesthetic stand out amongst other designers?

My aesthetic stands out amongst other designers in that my designs are a true reflection of each individual client. My objective is to show my clients personality, adhere to classic design principals, and be proud of the work. Each work being custom to the client is my guiding objective.

What is the greatest value you provide to your clients?

The greatest value I provide to my clients is getting to know what they need, want, and want to feel from their space, especially if they don’t know what that is. It’s about getting in their head and feeling their spirit.
