The Gentleman's Kitchen

Regional Award Winner KDC 2010-12

The foundation requirement for the kitchen in this new home was to make it two: One that is compact enough to easily use from day to day. And one that is large enough to serve as the functional and social center of large gatherings.

On an average day, the owners can live between the island and the range. When a holiday comes, the caterer claims this area, the expansive island becomes the buffet, and "cleanup corner" on the opposite side of the room allows a smooth end to the affair. The stylistic goal was to be substantial yet simple, a nod to the room’s place within the traditions of Philadelphia’s Main Line.
