Green Mountain Beauty

Regional Award Winner KDC 2010-12

On this project, the pleasure and the challenge were one in the same: execute a pure Arts & Crafts kitchen for sophisticated midwest natives who were now building their dream house in picturesque southern Vermont.

Simplicity, detail, fine materials, and function make this large family kitchen work on a daily basis and also on the grand scale, for large catered fund-raising events. Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove appliances were the only logical equipment for this showcase space. The cook has the convenience of a 48” range top, double wall ovens, and two warming drawers. Individual refrigerator and freezer units are supplemented by refrigerator drawers in the coffee and breakfast area. The beautiful view of the valley is depicted in the hand-carved hood. The hundred-year-old Oak that frames the valley view is in the foreground of the carving, where you can see the access road to the mountain, lake, and Green Mountains in the background. Cabinetry is quarter sawn White Oak with Walnut pyramid pegs, a typical detail of the period. Stained glass incorporates the Ginkgo leaf, another common theme. In the end, this kitchen stands up to the impeccable detail and love, dedicated to producing an amazing Arts & Crafts home, with beautiful interior and exterior views.
