Regional Award Winner KDC 2010-12

"A warm and loving home can find additional delight within its walls, when given the opportunity to transform." It was a great pleasure to design the kitchen and master bath for legendary sportscaster, Jim Lampley and wife, Debra. Stepping into the Lampley's stunning home, located in the hilltop community of Del Mar, it was exciting to bring to life the vision of Jim and Debra, along with their combined family of seven adult children.
In need of an update, my challenge was to turn Jim's self-proclaimed bachelor pad/fraternity house into a family home. Jim's tastes ran toward modern and masculine chic, while Debra's ran more toward homey and shabby chic. With Jim and Debra on hand to choose the fixtures, they gave me almost total freedom of design. Creating a kitchen suited for entertaining, multiple cooks, and guests was important, as this part of the home is a common place for many to come together. To begin, my only design clue was a picture they handed me ripped out from a magazine that featured a black and white kitchen. A complete gut job, the only thing to remain was the charcoal grey porcelain tile floor installed throughout the house a year earlier. With that in mind, a kitchen was born, complete with cabinetry in a beautiful dark black walnut, hugging the perimeter of the kitchen, transitioning into a Carrera marble backsplash interlaced with stainless steel. The countertops reflect a smooth White Zeus Silestone and Vanilla Green granite, tying the design together and honoring the modern style the family appreciates. The lighting elements set any desired mood, complete with blended puck lights, recessed can lights, recessed tracks and under the counter lighting.
This Kitchen was featured in the San Diego Union Tribune and was on the ASID Kitchen and Bath Tour October 27th. Debra Lampley told the Union Tribune reporter that the most important purchase they made and her favorite part of the kitchen are her Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances. The Lampley’s selected the 36" Commercial Wolf Range, Wolf 42" Wall Hood, Wolf 30" ovens, Sub Zero BI-48SD side-by-side Refrigerator/Freezer and a Bosch dishwasher."
