Private Residence, Boston Area

Regional Award Winner KDC 2010-12

"The main design challenge posed was how to organize a very large kitchen that had relatively little wall space in order to free the exterior walls for views to the exterior.

This challenge was met by dividing the Kitchen into (4) distinct areas:

The Main Kitchen; composed of the traditional work triangle (wall counter and island)

The Pantry; separated from the Kitchen by a built-in, stainless steel, oven cabinet

The Breakfast Area; adjacent and easily accessed from the Kitchen w/views to the exterior and screened Porch.

The Sitting Area; open to all of the above areas

The wide variety of both Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances made it easy to outfit each of the above areas. Additionally, there is a Wine Room adjacent to the Kitchen and Sitting Area (bottles visible through glass walls) and a glass walled Conservatory w/a fireplace visible from the Kitchen, accessed through the Sitting Area. The main materials are: oak veneer and gray laminate cabinets; concrete and stainless steel countertops; blackened steel, open upper shelves; a central stainless steel hood and shelf. The backsplash of the main sink area is actually the stone veneer carried from the fireplace in the adjacent Dining Room. The floors are concrete with radiant heating."
